Sonya Lowery visited SMV to check us out for her WorldNextDoorTV.com "No-Travel" Travel Show. Ms. Lowery’s show explores “the Washington Area’s little known Hot Spots” revealing all manner of cool destinations, so of course her journey brought her to Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard! SMV In the News on Examiner.com
Wine Examiner Anthony Layman visited SMV recently and reports on several events in his article postings on Examiner.com. “Grape Stomp 2009” brings our annual event alive, “a classic and appropriate chant from the crowd was heard in unison, 'Stomp them grapes, Stomp them grapes.' In the end, Traci would prove victorious by a large margin.” In “Grape Expectations”, Mr. Layman writes “it is always exciting to learn about how the owners fell in love with wine, what the philosophy is from [their] perspective...”, and shares the SMV story and discusses our wines.

A publication spotlighting innovation in the metropolitan area, this issue recommends a day trip to Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard as one of its “The Best of the City 09” selections. “Oenophiles are swarming to Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard…to sip top-flight Cabernet Franc, Pinot Grigio and other wines”. Dr.Kevin Attics, Executive Director of the Maryland Wineries Association, discussed Maryland wines, stating, “we are producing wines that are winning international competitions – Boordy, Fiore, Sugarloaf Mountain, Black Ankle – they have figured out the award-winning formula. Scott Greenberg, “The Vine Guy”, a respected wine critic, listed our Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay Reserve, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc as “ a few of my favorite wines from the Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard portfolio.” Scott stated that he “was blown away “ by our Pinot Grigio and that “It’s rare to find a single-varietal cabernet franc, and the good news is, this is a good one to find.” See www.dcexaminer.com.

Aidan Murphy, Vice-President of Operations for Restaurant Associates, the Company that services The Music Center at Strathmore, The John F. This issued carried an article by Dave McIntyre, the wine writer for the Washington Post which describes Sugarloaf Mountain and our friends at Black Ankle as “two bold new wineries are not just producing high-quality wines-they’re also changing the way wines are made in Maryland.” The article goes on to say “Based on my tasting of the 2007 reds in barrel, Sugarloaf should have no trouble producing outstanding estate wines.” See www.washington.com.

“Metro Connection” on WAMU radio, American University
August 22, 2008
This broadcast of David Furst’s show on WAMU 88.5 fm featured a segment on local wines where Mr. Furst interviewed Dick Rosano, a wine writer for the Washington Post and Wine News, Mr. Rosano discussed wines and wineries in the region and cited SMV as “certainly among the best” in Maryland.
