The Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard Chardonnay
is made in the Chablis style. Without malolactic fermentation, the wine
retains its sharp, fruity character. Aging in high quality French oak
prevents the "over-oaked" character of many of today's Chardonnays. Food
pairings for this wine include grilled fish, shellfish and sharp
cheeses. While highly approachable now, this wine will improve with age
over the next 3 - 5 years.

2006
Chardonnay
Our 2006 vintage is an opulent, straw colored
wine with a silky, viscous texture that accentuates its toast,
butterscotch and apple elements. Vibrant and fruity, this wine displays
hints of almond, linden and melon in the bouquet along with flavors of
apple, hazelnut and citrus. Hints of lemon zest and pink peppercorn
accent clean, yet memorable finish.

Chardonnay Reserve – Maryland
We set aside some of our 2006
Chardonnay to let it continue to age in French oak barrels. We feel this
Reserve wine, made from our Dijon clones, further demonstrates that fine
white wine can be grown and produced in Maryland.

SMV’s first release of a Maryland Chardonnay is an elegant offering
produced in the Chablis style. It exhibits a refined, fruit forward
character and a steely minerality. This light straw colored,
medium-bodied wine boasts inviting aromas of melon and pineapple along
with hints of honey and toasted almond, enlivening the senses and
preparing the palate for the silky, seamless layers of lemon, apricot,
lychee and hazelnut that follow. Notes of wet stone and citrus accent a
long, honeyed finish.

This luxurious, medium-bodied white wine fills the senses with classic
Chablis characteristics. The aroma is dense and lush with grapefruit and
green apple. The flavors are layered with apple, citrus and ripe melon
accented by roasted nut and toasty attributes. The wine fills the
mid-palate and flavors extend through a long, lingering finish.
