The Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard Cabernet
Franc, an outstanding Maryland red wine, is quickly becoming our
signature wine.
Our 2005 won a Double Gold in the 2007 International
Eastern Wine Competition. The Franc demonstrates Mid-Atlantic winemaking
at its finest. While excellent now, the Cabernet Franc will be at its best in two
years and will continue to age gracefully for another 4 years.

2008 Cabernet
Franc
Silver Medalist: 2009 American Wine Society's Commercial Wine Competition
Cabernet Franc seems to like it here in the Mid Atlantic. “Francs” produced in this region, most
notably Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard Cabernet Franc, can compete with any Cabernet Franc
produced in established wine regions throughout the world. Blended with Cabernet Sauvignon,
this elegant wine will pair well with roast chicken and fowl along with lean cuts of beef and game.
With a clear, bright brick red color, the Cabernet Franc displays a floral and rose petal perfume mixed with top notes of blackberry, black currant and a touch of oak wood smoke. The flavors are a combination of the aromatic notes with typical black pepper and tea impressions noted in previous vintages along with notes of jam and boysenberry. The follow-through is long as the combination of white pepper, fine-grain tannin and dried herb provides the wine with ample structure and proportion.
Just released!
2007 Cabernet
Franc Reserve
Gold Medalist: 2009 American Wine Society's Commercial Wine Competition
Silver Medalist: 2009 Maryland Governor’s Cup
Silver Medalist: 2009 Atlantic Seaboard Wine Competition
Mid-Atlantic Cabernet Franc has gained a world-wide reputation for outstanding wine. With its
deep garnet-red color, the vivid nose divulges aromas of blackberry, black currant and toasted
almond along with layers of tea and clove. On the palate, this medium bodied wine expresses a
range of spices, including cinnamon and anise along with notes of tea and black cherry. With its subdued, mature tannin structure, the “Franc Reserve” finishes with hints of dark chocolate, spice
and Earl Grey.
2007 Cabernet
Franc
Gold Medalist: 2009 International Eastern Wine Competition
Gold Medalist: 2009 Maryland Winemasters’ Choice Awards
Bronze Medalist: 2009 Atlantic Seaboard Wine Competition
Building on the success of our prior
vintages, the 2007 Cabernet Franc compares favorably with any Cabernet
Franc produced in established wine regions throughout the world, and
ideal growing conditions conspired to create a vintage year. The 07
Franc reveals aromas of sour cherry, nutmeg and rose petal, along with
layers of green tea and anise. On the palate, fresh berry flavors
dominate along with notes of mushroom and black olive. With its refined
tannin structure, the Franc finishes
with hints of white pepper and
coffee.
This bold wine will pair well with
lamb, pork and any slow
cooked meats. While excellent now, patience will
be rewarded with another year of bottle age. 2007 was a vintage year,
and we produced 197 cases of the Franc, and expect it will sell out
quickly. It will be at its best in two years and will continue to age
gracefully for another five.
